About Joy

A native of Fishguard in Pembrokeshire, Joy’s interest in music began at an early age. After receiving an entrance scholarship in 2004, she entered the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama where she has recently completed her B.Mus. (Hons) degree and graduated with First Class Honours. During her time at the college she studied both voice and harp and enjoyed representing the college on numerous occasions.

From an early age Joy has competed in and won many County, Urdd and National Eisteddfodau both in solo, folk solo and duet classes. Joy has gained three 2nd prizes in the Soprano solo over 25 years and was named runner-up of the Blue Riband competition at the 2018 National Eisteddfod. Her most prestigious moment was winning the Open Vocal Solo at the 2012 Llangollen International Eisteddfod. During October 2014 Joy travelled to Patagonia with Wales YFC and competed in the Chebut Eisteddfod winning several awards. Amongst the awards Joy won the hymn solo and was later invited to perform during the annual Gymanfa Ganu in Trelew. At the 2013 Gwyl Fawr Aberteifi Joy was the winner of both the Blue Riband competition as well as the Open Lieder competition. Joy received the Violet Mary Roberts Scholarship at the 2006 and 2007 National Eisteddfod for the best soprano aged 19-25 years, also achieving runner-up in the Blue Riband Competition under 25. In 2002, 2005, 2010 and 2011 Joy won the ‘Cwpan Ardudwy’ at the Young Farmers National Eisteddfod for the best musical item.

Now a regular soloist in recitals and concerts around the United Kingdom, Spain, Ischia, Germany and Ireland. Joy has performed alongside most Male Voice Choirs.

Since being accepted onto the Live Music Now and Music in Hospitals scheme, Joy is now busy bringing music into the community and is seen frequently performing in care homes and hospital settings. In November 2006, Joy made her debut performance as a Harpist and Soloist at the Wales Millennium Centre as part of the Wales Young Farmers Federation 60th Gala Concert. During October 2009 and 2010, Joy travelled to Vancouver to perform for the Vancouver Welsh Society and in October 2015 was guest artist with Dyffryn Tywi Male Voice Choir during their tour in Ireland. Joy is a past performer with the Welsh National Youth Opera.

A faithful past member of Côr Newyddion Da, Joy performed at the Royal Albert Hall, London, The Cardiff International Arena as well as across many parts of Europe.

The minute I heard Joy playing at the Hensol and Vale Wedding show, I got butterflies and I said to my partner I wanted Joy to play for our wedding ceremony ❤️
However, it wasn't the easiest Road to the Big day and Covid hindered are plans massively. Nonetheless, 3 days before the wedding, I got the confirmation that Joy could definitely play at our ceremony and I was ecstatic 🥳 Joy was amazing with all the last minute planning and with learning my chosen entrance song 'Kiss the Rain by Yiruma'
I couldn't recommend Joy enough and hope we can use her services again in the future. Thank you for being part of our big day 💕

Cannot recommend Joy highly enough! From the first moment we saw Joy play at a wedding fayre (and made my maid of honour cry!) we knew that she was perfect for our wedding. Very talented harpist and singer. We had Joy play during our ceremony and singing during the signing of the register followed by playing outdoors before the wedding breakfast. All of our guests very much enjoyed Joy's performance especially when she sang. Thank you so much Joy x

My mum and I found Joy and her harp at a wedding fair and as soon as I heard them I knew that's what I wanted for my wedding. Ha it was one of the few things I did. She performed in the church and at the reception. Although I personally didn't get to hear her as much as I would have liked whilst going about my bridal duties on the day. What I did hear and  all the reports back from family and friends, confirmed what a fab artist she is. Should there ever be a need for it I will definitely be back in touch to book her again. Thanks so much for making my husband and my day that bit more special. x

Joy played the harp beautifully at our wedding in oldwalls in August. Joy was great to communicate with and she worked with us to make sure we got what we wanted for our ceremony. Would recommend for weddings and events.

First of all I want to give you a big thank you for making Ellis and Amy's wedding so special. They were thrilled on how the harp and singing gave such a special touch to their day, so many of their guests commented on how beautiful it was. We're so glad we bumped into you at the CJ wedding fayre, it was meant to be. I hope to bump into you again sometime, and that you keep playing and singing. We've also picked you out on you tube so you never know when you get five minutes you'll post something up again for us to all appreciate. Take care and a personal big thank you Jill and Mark xxxHowever, it wasn't the easiest Road to the Big day and Covid hindered are plans massively.
